Project Overview

The client sought support in modelling, refactoring, and re-architecting the organization’s daily batch process cycles to optimize orchestration and automation, improve execution times, and provide clarity into high-risk or inefficient process workflows. The initiative began with the analysis and reconciliation of all automated processes and workflows into a master inventory that included runtime data, sequencing, and dependencies for insights into inefficient or outdated processes that require refactoring. The RP team successfully conducted a data exploration exercise to uncover operational problems and used data analysis and visualization techniques, including the development of custom tools, to pinpoint specific areas that merit further investigation and workarounds.

Solution

  • Reference Point deployed a team of subject matter experts and experienced consultants to analyze the organization’s current state automated processing cycles and propose opportunities for optimization, refactoring, and re-architecting.
  • In order to explore operational data, the RP team compiled runtime data, including the development of SQL scripts and visualization tools, to identify inefficient processes, risks, dependencies, and bottlenecks.
  • Findings from the data analysis were leveraged to identify opportunities for optimization and proposed modifications across process sequencing and data flow, code refactoring, hardware configurations, and system versioning to lean out the operational processing and improve overall orchestration.

Impact

  • Reference Point’s approach provided clarity and insight into the organization’s operational processing engine that was historically poorly documented and for which management was reliant on tribal knowledge.
  • The data analysis, visualization techniques, and proposed optimizations enabled key stakeholders to review both high-level and low-level processes in detail and prioritize plans for remediation and re-architecture.
  • The deliverables and work products provided scripts and techniques that the organization will be able to leverage for future work across batch cycle analysis and process management.
